Abstract

A meditation on the fate of two British naval planes lost in Sebago Lake in 1944. Describes the official account of events which led to the sinking of the planes, as well as alternative theories. Discusses the longstanding reluctance of the British government to have the wrecks raised and any remains of the pilots repatriated. Recounts the efforts of salvager Alfred "Fred" Hagen to win the right to recover the planes.
