Abstract
Article on the two Brazilian offshore oil rigs that were under construction on Portland's waterfront since the summer of 2002. Construction company Cianbro leased the city-owned Portland Ocean Terminal to finish the electrical, mechanical, instrumentation, and piping on the two deep-sea vessels. According to Jeffrey Monroe, Portland's transportation director, the project exceeded expectations in terms of economic impact. One of the rigs, the "Pride of Portland," has returned to the waterfront for the moment because no buyer has stepped forward to claim it. For now, it remains in Portland and may do so until Cianbro's lease is up in the fall, while the other remains docked in Brazil, waiting for work.
