Abstract

Article on painter Edward Hopper, with a focus on the influence the state of Maine played in his success as an oil painter and watercolorist. Starting in 1914, Hopper (1882 - 1967) spent many summers of his early career in Maine, including visits to Rockland, Ogunquit, Monhegan Island and Portland. "Edward Hopper's Rockland," on view through September 26 at the Farnsworth Art Museum in Rockland, recalls one of several significant painting forays Hopper made to Maine. Details.
