Abstract

"house of the month" piece on two John Calvin Stevens houses just blocks from each other in South Portland: one the former "Atlantic Lodge" in Delano Park, is listed for $1.8 million; the other a pocket mansion at 519 Cottage Road, is listed for under $300,000, but still filled with the detail that distinguishes Stevens's more elaborate homes. Stevens took pride in designing homes not only for the wealthy but for the working class; he was even accused of being a socialist.
