Abstract

"Chowder" piece on the mystery surrounding the silk banner of Gen. Henry Knox's Thomaston Calvary. The flag was discovered in 1932 and donated to the General Henry Knox Museum. Earle Shettleworth of the Maine Historic Preservation Commission believes it was painted by Charles Codman, while David Martucci, past-president of the North American Vexillological Association, thinks the artist pre-dates Codman.
