Abstract

Actress Verna Bloom and her screenwriter husband chose Falmouth architect Carol A. Wilson to design a writers' studio on the site of their Mt. Desert Island summer home. Wilson is the first Maine woman, and one of only five Mainers, to be chosen for the American Institute of Architects' College of Fellows. The studio in the trees cantilevers over Somes Sound and takes full advantage of available sunlight. It won the Honor Award for Design Excellence from the New England chapter of the American Institute of Architects for "Excellence in Architecture" for 2005.
