Abstract
Descriptions of seven of the most challenging hikes in Maine, including: Mt. Katahdin's Knife's Edge and Traveler Mountain Trail, both in Baxter State Park in Millinocket; Mahoosuc Notch in Upton, the toughest mile on the Appalachian Trail; the Precipice Trail on Champlain Mountain and the Beehive, both in Acadia National Park in Bar Harbor; the stretch of the Appalachian Trail through the Bigelow Mountain Range in Stratton; and Gulf Hagas in Milo.
