Abstract
"Vanishing Maine" piece about the craze for Near Eastern-themed interior decor in various clubs and theaters around Portland, including the Morocco Lounge, a dine-and-dance club in the Wadsworth Hotel on Portland's Preble Street in the 1930s, '40s, and '50s, the State Theatre, and the Egyptian Room at the Eastland Hotel. With a very brief look at when and why the trend took hold, in Maine as well as in the rest of the country.
