Abstract
“Hungry Eye” piece on local places that cater to specific holiday traditions. Harbor Fish Market and Browne Trading Company see many customers who observe the Italian custom of eating fish on Christmas Eve. Grant’s Bakery in Lewiston can sell out of pork pies, or tourtières, around the holidays, and the Simply Scandinavian Foods Shop in Portland often sells out of Swedish jams and jellies. Also profiled are Bogusha’s Polish café and food shop; Morse’s which features German sauerkraut as well as baked goods from all over Europe; Mittapheap Market which caters to Asian customers mostly but also tries to accommodate requests from their Central American, Caribbean, and African customers; Micucci Grocery; and several bakeries.
