Abstract

The author’s account of his seven-year search to uncover the fate of the missing L’Oiseau Blanc and his theory as to what might have happened. The French Navy plane vanished in 1927 off the coast of Newfoundland while competing to achieve the first nonstop flight between Paris and New York, a contest that was won by Charles Lindbergh. Decré’s research has taken him from the Aix en Provence Archives to the Portland Public Library in Maine.
