Abstract

The Portland Public Library's Bookmobile, the only bookmobile remaining in the state, has been off the road for seven weeks because of mechanical problems. The bookmobile made 14 stops over three days each week, and circulated 30,000 books a year, a number surpassed only by the main library and the Riverton branch. People depended on the bookmobile for books and social interaction, and many of its users say it is sorely missed. Details.
