Abstract

A technology known as biopreventing, in which pollution-eating microbes take part in the natural cleanup of petroleum-related contamination, may play a role in the government's $220 million cleanup of Loring Air Force Base in Limestone. Other more traditional cleanup methods such as excavation, incineration, chemical application and landfill disposal will be employed in the project, scheduled to begin this summer.
