Abstract

A study funded by the Maine Medical Center Research Department in Portland and the Foundation for Blood Research in Scarborough has determined that children who live with smokers suffer more asthma attacks and have poorer lung function than those who reside in smoke-free environments. The study, published today in the New England Journal of Medicine, is the first time researchers have established links between specific doses of second-hand smoke and their effects on asthmatic children.
