Abstract

Paul E. Violette, executive director of the Maine Turnpike Authority, blames the Legislature for forcing the authority to purchase a 4.8 mile stretch of Interstate 95 south of the York plaza for $17 million, which will result in an additional 25 cent toll for drivers getting off the turnpike at York, regardless of where they got on. Critics contend that the cost should be shared by all turnpike users.
