Abstract

Central Maine Power Co. (CMP) has asked the Lake Moxie Campowners Association to assume ownership of the Lake Moxie dam. CMP claims that the cost of reinforcement and environmental work outweighs the financial benefits of continued ownership, but the campowners say they can't afford the cost of maintaining the dam. One alternative is to remove or breach the dam, which would lower water levels in the lake by up to 16 feet. Related article.
