Abstract

The secession of Long Island from Portland earlier this year has raised talks of secession among residents of Portland's remaining five islands, creating a nervous state among city officials. During last week's annual visit by city officials to four of the five islands, officials were intent on listening to islander complaints and promised to attend to them, apparently in an effort to stave off any future secession movements.
