Abstract

Yarmouth educational officials recently unveiled a plan to shorten the summer vacation for schoolchildren, while Freeport has proposed consolidating the February and April vacations into one. The state last year created the State Task Force on Year-Round Education to consider the issue, and although no firm decisions have been made it seems clear that many educators believe that Maine's traditional 175-day school year is due for a change.
