Abstract

Five related articles on Prohibition-era rum running in Maine. Maine's former federal alcohol control chief, Henry Weaver of York, tells how he nabbed racketeers on rum row during their dark-of-themoon drops. A Kennebunk tugboat captain recalls running rum from Massachusetts to Maine in the 1930s. One Winter Harbor lobsterman's real trade was smuggling from Canada, leaving his traps posted with liquor orders. And Reid Chapman of Kennebunk tells some tales about bootlegging and home stills. Details; period news articles reprinted; period photos; copy of rum runner's codebook.
