Abstract
The John J. Nissen Baking Company, which was on Portland's Munjoy Hill for decades, is moving to Biddeford, marking the end of an era for Nissen's 250 loyal workers. In the final days in the Munjoy Hill building, company employees and neighbors who have lived near the baking company for decades tell their stories. The Nissen Retiree Club meets three or four times a year and draws a crowd of 50 or more. Priscilla Lowell represents the second of four generations to work at Nissen's. Most have only praise for the company, which was like a "family."
