Abstract

Cong Ba Nguyen, a Vietnamese-African-American refugee, and Mira Cua, a Guatemalan immigrant, live in Portland with their nephew and two children. Mira talks of her hard life in Guatemala and helping her father weave Mayan cloth as a young child. She met Cong at Nancy's Shellfish in Portland, where he was her boss. He now works at Jordan's Meats. He was raised in a Saigon orphanage and struggled to make his way to America as a refugee. He has become a citizen, and Mira has acquired a green card.
