Poor people in Maine do not fit national stereotypes. The fastest growing group are working adults. Two-thirds of poor Maine families have two parents. Seasonal industries, underemployment (part-time work), and the collapse of one-employer towns are major factors in Maine poverty. Related stories this issue.
