Abstract

Portland Public Library Director Steve Podgajny said, that faced with cutting $120,000 from the library's 2010 budget, library officials might reduce hours at all five satellite branches rather than close one or two branches. The decision to cut hours systemwide, along with 2.5 staffers, would come at the expense of efficiency, but would be in line with residents' wishes to spread the cuts across all branches. City Manager Joe Gray is proposing to flat-fund the library for the second year in a row. Podgajny said library use is up more than 15 percent in recent years.
