Abstract

Lice infestations in the salmon farming industry cost New Brunswick salmon farmers over $1 million last fall. Mainers attending a farmed-fish health conference in Eastport last week were advised that 97 percent of all salmon examined from Eastport to St. Andrews in the last few months had at least four lice each. Sea lice at low levels are naturally present on fish and not very active, but given favorable circumstances populations of the parasite could explode.
