Abstract

Charles O'Leary, president of the Maine AFL-CIO, has resigned from a working group of the Maine Economic Growth Council, a 220-member committee charged with producing an economic recovery plan for Maine by May 6. The hurriedly assembled council, which did not have a firm membership list when its formation was announced March 4, had attacked Maine's welfare safety net and jobless benefits as too generous, prompting O'Leary's resignation.
