Abstract
Julien Holmes, 64, of Wayne, a retired atmospheric physicist for the federal government, says Maine's use of reformulated gasoline will not help the state reach its 15 percent ozone reduction target. Holmes contends that 91 percent of the volatile organic compounds that react with sunlight to form ozone in Maine are produced by the state's abundant forests. State officials agree with Holmes' figure, but say his conclusions are irrelevant. Details.
