Abstract
DeLorme Mapping has proposed building a $6 million, 110,000-square-foot office-retail complex in Yarmouth. Chipco International of Windham has proposed construction of a $1 million-plus, 30,000-square-foot light manufacturing plant in Cumberland. Maine Medical Center has received local approval to construct a $5 million, 40,000-square-foot medical office facility in Falmouth, and out-of-state investors are converting retail space nearby into a $1.5 million, eight-screen cinema complex. The spate of commercial development highlights differences in the personalities of the three towns, and raises questions about whether the communities could do better cooperatively than they can do independently.
