Abstract
Jim Fotter, an employee of the Maine Education Association, is an openly gay volunteer with Maine Won't Discriminate in Caribou. Fotter is the director of the Northern Lambda Norde Center in Caribou, the only gay community center in Maine. Fotter has been attending meetings held by the Christian Civic League of Maine and the Coalition to End Special Rights, both of which support referendum Question One, which would limit the classes protected under Maine's human rights laws. Fotter is concerned that MWD has written off Aroostook County, and that he and other active opponents feel outnumbered and powerless.
