Abstract
The U.S. Army Corps of Engineers, in a letter to Maine Department of Transportation Commissioner John Melrose, said that the current design for the proposed Sears Island cargo port is unacceptable. The Corps is calling for the construction of piers to replace the solid fill proposed by the MDOT, which would add $16 million to the project's cost. Melrose is trying to arrange a meeting between Charles Hewett, Gov. King's chief of staff, and Army Corps Regulatory Division Chief William Lawless. Details.
