Abstract
Maine voters last week approved a $4 million bond issue for the construction of affordable housing for the mentally ill. Helen Bailey of Maine Advocacy Services says passage of the bond fits right into Maine Department of Mental Health Commissioner Melodie Peet's proposal to create a statwide network of community-based mental health agencies, but Bailey is concerned that some legislators may object to Peet's plan. state senator Joan Pendexter has filed legislation that is designed to block creation of regional mental health authorities, a key part of Peet's plan.
