Abstract

Details on Friday's conference in Augusta, during which the preliminary results of the Maine Chamber and Business Alliance's $1.5 million study of Maine's tax system were discussed. Gov. King reiterated his support for the study, while Maine Senate President Jeffrey Butland insisted that a study isn't necessary to determine that Mainers are overtaxed. Daphne Kenyon of Smith College said that the data show that, on a per capita basis, Maine's taxes are almost exactly at the national average.
