Abstract
A bill sponsored by state representative Bonnie Green of Monmouth would make it illegal for insurance firms, medical organizations and health maintenance organizations to cancel coverage for health care or refuse to issue, renew or continue coverage to a person because he or she is a victim of domestic violence. Several Maine insurance companies testified in support of the bill, and nobody testified against it. The Women's Law Project of Philadelpia has documented cases of insurance discrimination against victims of domestic abuse, but no cases were documented in Maine. Details.
