Abstract

The Bureau of Agriculture and Rural Resources has had its funding cut from $411,000 in 1990 to $41,000 this year, one example of the state's lack of response to Maine's declining agricultural base. Attempts begun in 1979 to revitalize agriculture in the state have largely been shelved, and the Department of Agriculture has largely become regulatory in function.
