Abstract

Belfast in the 1980s was known as a good place for artists, and offered artists affordable studio space, the company of other artists and galleries that would show their work. The two best galleries have shut their doors for good, and Artfellows, a cooperative gallery run by members, is the only remaining gallery dedicated to showing local work. Rose Marie Frick, who shut her High Street gallery for a move to Portland, thinks any new gallery will likely show art of interest to the conservative corporate culture. Details.
