Abstract

State senator Willis Lord, R-North Waterboro, was the beneficiary of a $100-per-plate fund-raising dinner that was hosted in part by construction industry executives. Lord, the co-chairman of the Maine Legislature's Natural Resources Committee, chaired a public hearing on LD 1853 and LD 1854 the day after the fund-raiser. LD 1853 revises the state's site law, and LD 1854 covers gravel pits. Judy Berk of the Natural Resources Council of Maine said the fund-raiser is an example of money influencing politics, but Lord said the timing was coincidental. Details.
