Abstract
Mary Beth Dolan of Monhegan last week was confirmed to the seven-member Land Use Regulation Commission after stating her opposition to a proposed ban on clear-cutting. The Maine Legislature's Agriculture, Conservation and Forestry Committee confirmed Dolan and fellow nominee Meldon Gilmore, and critics say the committee applied a litmus test before confirming them. The committee had previously voted unanimously against a citizen initiative proposing a clear-cutting ban, and Dolan's assertion that the ban was not a good idea seems to have gotten her the confirmation.
