Abstract

The Maine Bureau of Highway Safety has been trying to promote public awareness of the state's new seat belt law, but the effort doesn't seem to be high on Gov. King's priority list. Steve McCausland of the state Department of Public Safety said that it's difficult to enforce the new law because its a secondary offense. State senator Jane Amero, one of the bill's co-sponsors, said the Maine Turnpike Authority or the Maine Department of Transportation should put up signs informing people of the law.
