Abstract

The Maine Organic Farmers and Gardeners Association has signed an option to purchase more than 200 acres of farmland and woods in the towns of Unity and Thorndike, and hope to stage the Common Ground Fair and other events there in 1999. The owners of the Belfast and Moosehead Railroad might add a Common Ground stop to train service from Belfast. MOFGA needs to obtain environmental permits from state officials to alter the site, and if successful will close the purchase and begin building fairground facilities.
