Abstract
The St. Johns, a new variety of potato similar to the Katahdin or Allegheny and developed jointly by the University of Maine and the University of Florida, could be marketed by Maine's potato growers to southern growers as a seed potato. Seed potato production in Maine accounts for only 20 percent of the $124 million industry, yet is disproportionately profitable and has the collateral benefit of yielding oversize potatoes.
