Abstract

Superior Court justice Susan Calkins last month ruled that Oxford County sheriff Lloyd Herrick has the authority to withhold names of complainants in the daily police log released to newspapers. The Lewiston Sun-Journal sued Herrick after reporter Judith Meyer was told she could not review an unedited department log. The newspaper has appealed the decision, claiming it widens the definition of confidential or sensitive material under Maine's right-to-know law.
