The dredging project would move 1.8 million cubic yards of sand from the harbor and onto the nearby town beach, and would involve $1.2 million in federal funds. The Maine Deparment of Environmental Protection had opposed dredging of the harbor under the McKernan administration, but now supports it. The Maine Board of Environmental Protection will make the final decision on the town's application to dredge. Details, history of Wells Harbor project.
