Abstract

The Independent Energy Producers of Maine says the November referendum on clear-cutting and forest practices would rob biomass plants of their primary energy source. The referendum states that all harvested trees must be de-limbed at or near the cutting site, which would deprive the biomass plants of slash. Each of Maine's nine biomass plants employ between 20 and 25 workers, and those jobs would be jeopardized by a ban on slash usage at clear-cutting sites.
