Abstract
A 50-year-old Lewiston man had a stroke, and made a near-complete recovery after being treated with a newly approved clot-busting drug called t-PA. Dr. Stephanie Carinci, a Lewiston neurologist, gave t-PA to a stroke victim last year, and the person died after developing intracranial hermorrhaging. Doctors have been hesitant to use t-PA because of the risk of intracranial bleeding, and several hospitals in Maine have been using the drug sparingly. Details.
