Abstract

The School Watchdog Committee, a group of 40 North Haven residents, last week called for the resignations of three of the island's five school board members and part-time Superintendent Laura Hickey. The group charged that the four had met in violation of the Maine Right to Know Law, apparently to restructure the position of principal. The controversy concerns a decision made a year ago by teaching Principal Barney Hallowell not to renew the contract of teacher Penny Adamovich. The controversy has polarized the island community, and the lines of division are highly personal. Details.
