Abstract
Maine has 64 lighthouses, from Kittery Point to Quoddy Head. Congress last year approved the Maine Lights Program, under which 36 of the state's lighthouses will be maintained and preserved by local groups. Thirty of the 36 lights will be in the hands of the Island Institute, which will recommend who will own them. A five-member selection committee will spend up to two years determining what nonprofit groups will receive title to the various lighthouses. Details, list of lighthouses.
