Abstract

The Canadian province of New Brusnwick has imposed an 11 percent surtax on goods purchased in the U.S. and on other provinces which border New Brunswick. Rep. Olympia Snowe, R-Maine, has registered opposition to the tax with federal officials, claiming that it could devastate the northern Maine economy.
