Abstract
Details on last week's public hearing in Southport on herring conservation options. The hearing was hosted by the Atlantic States Marine Commission and the New England Fishery Management Council. Some of the discussion focused on the 370-foot trawler Atlantic Star, which would be operated as American Pelagic Fishing Co. The company, which is spending $40 million to overhaul the ship in Norway, proposes spending another $5 million to $7 million to build an onshore processing facility.
