Abstract

The recent ice storms are said to have had a devastating impact on maple syrup producers in Vermont and Quebec. Jamie Greager of F&A Farms in Palermo said he probably won't produce this year, due to downed and damaged trees. The maple industry is also trying to determine how to respond to the discovery of lead in some maple syrup in 1994. Maine is the nation's third-largest maple syrup producer, with roughly 150,000 gallons annually.
