Abstract

Details on last week's public hearing before the Maine Legislature's Marine Resources Committee, which is considering a measure to create a resource conservation zone around Monhegan Island. The bill would create a zone extending two miles from the shore around two-thirds of the island, and three miles from the southern end. Only Monhegan fishermen would be allowed to set traps in the zone, and fishing would only be allowed between December 1 and June 1. Fishermen from Friendship are not happy with the bill.
