Abstract
A feature on small presses and self-publishers in Maine. Linda Tatelbaum, a Colby English professor and homesteader in Appleton, found a market for her self-published book, "Carrying Water as a Way of Life," after being rejected by major publishers. Julie Zimmerman teaches self-publishing at the Maine Writers and Publishers Alliance and operates Biddle Publishing Company and the self-publishing cooperative, Audenreed Press. Tillbury House, Publishers in Gardiner, spawned in part by Mark Melnicove's Dog Ear Press, is owned by Neil Rolde and has as its editor Jennifer Elliott. It is one of Maine's larger presses and focuses on children's books and books about Maine.
