Abstract

Details on the life of director John Ford, born John Feeney in Cape Elizabeth and raised in a Sheridan Street home on Portland's Munjoy Hill. Linda Noe Laine, daughter of a Louisianna governor, Ford family friend, and philanthropist, started a foundation in her name to commemorate John and Mary Ford. She paid for a statue of the director to be placed at Gorham's Corner and helped plan the program for the John Ford Celebration, to be held in Portland from July 6-12. Another festival, the Maine International Film Festival, will be held this July in Waterville by the operators of Railroad Square Cinema, and will feature forty films and four seminars at the Cinema and the Waterville Opera House. The festival was started in 1997 by the Friends of Art and Film in Central Maine, the same people who started the Cinema. This year the group hopes to attract 2,000 visitors to Waterville during the 10-day festival. Details on both festivals.
